Yes. I do understand. Fun, non-adversarial conversations are unusual on the internet, and I appreciate the opportunity.
The curfew proposal began as a smart-aleck retort to a proposal for a curfew on women, an equally impractical proposal.
For a curfew to be successful, there would have to be a strong, favorable consensus among men and women. Otherwise, there might be massive protests — men gathering in large groups to peacefully protest by violating curfew.
I live in a small community with very little street crime in general. Sometimes, I sit on a bench in the village center and sip coffee.
Even if I was inclined to “cat-call” or harass women (which I am not), there would be very little opportunity. I might see one other person every fifteen minutes or so. Most who pass my bench will say “Hi,” and I return the greeting. I smile and they usually smile back. The police station is just beyond the central intersection. It is a five-way intersection, and it is interesting to watch how the traffic moves through. A curfew would be devastating to the retail businesses.
There are occasional instances of domestic violence as reported on the local news.
