What would be the relevance of the universe if it did not contain creatures who are able to appreciate its existence?

We are all doomed to extinction, both individually and collectively. I intend to delay my personal extinction for as long as possible. When I am gone, I am gone forever and forever doesn't get any shorter, no matter how long it is delayed.

The planet itself is doomed. In four billion years or so, the sun will swallow the Earth and all life on it.

All life exists for a mere instant in the sea of eternity. We are nothing but dust in the wind:

But I intend to enjoy the time I have been given.
