True. Unconscious thought exerts a substantial influence on the exercise of free will. The content of the unconscious is, in turn, influenced by conditions and circumstances.
Are unconscious thoughts placed in the minds of individuals by the culture? Or does the culture emerge from unconscious thoughts already in the minds of its individual members?
Do cultures create individuals? Or do individuals create cultures?
How many of the narratives that you seek to shift into your readers' minds are your own unconscious narratives?
There is no harm, and some potential benefit, in seeking to alert your readers to other possibilities. Harm would only come if you were to seek to impose those other possibilities by coercive or restrictive means.
If narratives shift, will they necessarily shift in the way that you anticipate?
