Most of us guys tried our best to keep our birth dates secret. I, for one, hated office birthday parties. But the women always schemed to discover our birth dates and impose "parties" on us unenthusiastic "celebrants." Most of the men could care less about celebrating birthdays at the office. So, why should we men perform a task that we'd rather not have performed. We were doing the women a favor by tolerating these "celebrations."

Then there were the women who decided to impose monthly pot-luck lunches. Yeah, great. It meant we had to go home after work and prepare an elaborate dish instead of just making a couple of sandwiches for the next day.

One of the worst was the woman who decided to organize a "secret Santa" for Christmas. That meant we had to go shopping and find some worthless peice of junk to trade for some other worthless peice of junk.

Why should men perform "emotional labor" for activities they'd rather avoid in the first place.
