“Men” are not a collective. We are not Borg, we are dissimilated. Any men who presume to make decisions for you are doing so as individuals, you are welcome to defy them. You are under no obligation to conform to their expectations, any more than I am obligated to conform to Feminists’ expectations.

LOCUTUS OF BORG

The most desirable work hours are the ones that I work - none, I’m retired.

The day-shift schedule (9–5 or similar) is chosen by individual employers. It is a natural work shift, since it is a time period when most people are naturally awake.

The person doing the hiring sets the terms, including the hours of work. The hirer decides what work needs to be performed and when. The hirer then seeks a hiree to whom those terms are acceptable. The terms are not arranged to be convenient to any particular individual or class. They are arranged around what the hirer deems to be the most productive and cost efficient way to get the job done. If the arrangement doesn’t work for one hiree, another one is chosen. No one is obligated to provide terms of employment that meet the convenience of any particular individual. It is the prerogative of the individual to accept the terms offered and be hired or reject them and not be hired.

The person doing the hiring could be a man or a woman. It is not an example of men choosing for women - it is an example of employers (who could be either sex) choosing for employees (who could be either sex).

Obviously, being a mother and working full time creates difficulties, one of which is finding an employer whose time requirements do not conflict with her responsibilities to her children. At one time, that issue was addressed by a prevailing tradition that encouraged mothers to refrain from employment and be financially supported by fathers, if they could afford to do so. Who was it again who strenuously objected to that tradition? Oh! Now I remember; it was Feminists.

I do not assert that I can decide what circumstances work for you, any more than Feminists can decide what circumstances work for me.
