I did not say that beauty standards do not exist; I said they are not imposed. There is no central authority that determines what the standards are to be and imposes them upon the rest of us against our will.
Beauty standards develop. They emerge because men have preferences, and many women seek to satisfy those preferences. Women gain advantages by appealing to men.
Sometimes women take extreme measures to appeal to men. Corsettes were one example. Chinese foot binding is another. Neither remains popular. A modern example would be cosmetic surgery and breast implants.
Except for foot binding, no one forces women to take those extreme measures. Women choose to do so for the advantages they hope to gain.
Standards are not imposed, they develop through interaction among men and women.
