I have not claimed that consciousness exists independent of a living body.

Your personal consciousness, and mine, appeared from nowhere, from oblivion, when we were concieved. It will return to nowhere after we are dead, buried and decaying. I have not proposed any continuity of your consciousness, as an individual beyond your physical existence.

What I propose is since your personal consciousness appeared from nowhere once, I can't rule out the possibility that it can appear from nowhere in a subsequent body, at a future time.

There is no more reason to suppose it can't than there is to suppose that it can. Both are equally possible.

There are consciousnesses regularly appearing from nowhere every time someone is born. No one can explain why one of them is yours and another is mine.
