I don't get it.

Am I understanding correctly?

There is no reward for completing the puzzle; there is a potential reward for choosing the competition.

Who in their right mind would choose the puzzle, which offers nothing, over the competition which offers a chance, however remote, for a reward.

This just doesn't add up, unless I'm missing something.
