I couldn’t say whether I like the movie “Cats” or not since I haven’t seen it. Years ago I attended a live performance held in the performing arts center in the small rural community where I live (the entire county has a population of about 88,000). Either the acoustics in the facility were terrible or my ears were, but I could understand neither the dialogue nor the lyrics; it might just as well have been performed in a foreign language for all I could understand. Your brief synopsis is my first introduction to the story line.
I procure my video entertainment by buying DVD’s for a dollar or two at yard sales, rummage sales, church sales, and used book sales. After viewing a DVD, if I decide not to keep it I offer it for sale when we hold our own yard sale. I donate the ones that don’t sell back to the organizations that sponsor the used book sales.
All available space in our house is covered with book cases full of books and DVD’s. I fear that if we purchase any more we will have to buy a library to keep them in.
Fortunately, we will probably be thwarted from further purchases this year, since the best of the annual and semi-annual sales have already been cancelled and other cancelations are likely to follow. I often borrow books and DVD’s from our public library, but it has been closed for the duration.
Lucky thing I already own more books and DVD’s than I will be able to read or view in what is left of my life. My favorite subject is science fiction, both books and movies. My wife, Estwalda, has every book that was ever written by or about Laura Ingalls Wilder. She has the complete series of “Little House on the Prairie” on DVD, and a written biography of the actress who played Laura Ingalls Wilder in that series. She is able to cite all of the historical inaccuracies that were depicted in the series.
I also enjoy historical documentaries, while Estwalda likes to view or read biographies of famous outlaws. I also try to keep up with popular scientific literature.
Your synopsis of “Cats” made it seem like a boring story. Perhaps if the DVD appears at one of the sales, should they ever resume, I will consider picking it up, just to see. I have an obstinate streak that sometimes leads me to do things just because somebody told me not to, sometimes to my regret.
