I am reminded of the long Sunday afternoon conversations I often have with a friend while sipping coffee. In one conversation, we proposed several solutions to the chicken-egg conundrum. He pointed out that egg-laying creatures existed long before chickens emerged in the evolutionary saga; therefore, the egg preceded the chicken.

That particular solution, however, is not relevant to this discussion. Confining the discussion exclusively to chicken eggs, my favorite solution is that neither the chicken nor the egg came first. Instead, there is a chicken-egg system that emerged in its entirety. If you were to backtrack the chicken-egg system, you would find yourself in an infinitely regressive system. But it cannot regress infinitely; it must have an origin.

A more serious question: Does society create individuals, or do individuals create society? Or is it another chicken-egg type system? What is its origin?
