Every scientific or philosophical discussion of consciousness that I have seen discusses consciousness in general. I have never seen a discussion that tries to explain the individuality of consciousness; why an individual experiences the unique, specific consciousness that he or she does, rather than a different one, or none at all.

Why was I born as me rather than somebody else? Why do I experience consciousness at all? Even though consciousness exists, why do I experience it? Why at this time as this person?

This is a question that I have never been able to successfully explain clearly. My meaning is consistently misunderstood. I hope this time I have finally made myself clear about what I am asking.
